The Castro Adobe stands near the epicenter of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The historic adobe house sustained damage which rendered it unsafe, and it was closed to the public until funds can be raised for restoration and seismic retrofit.
On 19 July 2022, we received some good news from Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks:
"The Castro Adobe near Watsonville is a California State Park. Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks is nearly finished with the restoration, and much of the furnishings have been placed and other interpretation is in the works. State Parks opens the adobe once a month for tours and it may be open two days a week in the near future. Private tours can also be arranged. School trips can also be arranged."
The Castro Adobe, is also California Historical Landmark 998.
