In 1994, after visiting Paris and The Loire, we secured rights to the domain name NoeHill to document our trip with our very first web pages. No CSS. No ASP. No JavaScript. Just vanilla HTML. Using table tags to position elements on the page.
The pages seem quaint now but we keep them on our web server as a memento of the early years of the World Wide Web and as a reminder of how robust the web is. If a web page worked in the Pleistocene Epoch, it still works. More
In 2001, we took our first cruise on the Star Clipper, embarking from Civitavecchia for two weeks of sailing, primarily in the Ligurian Sea and Tyrrhenian Sea along the west coast of Italy. We visited mainland ports in Italy and France and legendary islands: Sicily, Corsica, Capri, Elba, Ponza, and the Aeolian Isles. Before the voyage, we spent a few days in Languedoc-Roussillon, and after the voyage, we spent a few days in Tuscany.
Because we built these web pages in the era of dial-up modems, we used tiny jpeg images. We are reworking the pages to upgrade the images. More
In 2002, we spent ten days at the Hotel American in the Dorsoduro neighborhood of Venice then sailed on the Wind Surf to Malta. Our ports of call were Hvar and Dubrovnik in Croatia, Corfu and Kefalonia in Greece, and Taormina in Italy. More
In 2003, we sailed from Cannes for two weeks on the Star Clipper. We visited ports in Italy and France, including four ports on the French island of Corsica and one port on the Italian island of Sardinia. Before and after the voyage, we spent a few days in Villefranche-sur-Mer just east of Nice. More
