The Italianate style was inspired by villas and townhouses in Tuscany, Umbria and Lombardy.
Italianate buildings are rectangular with two or three stories and wide eaves usually supported by brackets. Windows are tall and thin.
Distinctive features are:
- wide eaves
- large brackets
- tall first floor windows
- low pitch hip roof
- cupola
- double door with glass panels
- rusticated quoins
- round arch
- hood mold or eyebrow window heads
- enriched overdoor
