Sonoma County Landmarks
In 1866, Winthrop Maddocks, a ship's carpenter from the state of Maine, built the original Green Valley School, a clapboard building with a bell tower, to serve the agricultural and ranching community of Graton.
When the original building burned down in 1930, the current building was constructed.
In 1964, the school was closed.
Over the subsequent decades, the property was as a childcare facility, a polling station, and a training center for the Graton Fire Department. In 2013, the dilapidated property was renovated and expanded to become a private residence.
