The Chinatown Branch Carnegie Library, designed by Gustave Albert Lansburgh in the Italian Renaissance style, was one of four Carnegie branches that Lansburgh designed in San Francisco. The other three branches are: Mission, Presidio and Sunset.

The Chinatown branch was the sixth of seven Carnegie branch libraries built in San Francisco. All seven buildings still function as libraries (see map).
