Architects George W. Percy and Frederick F. Hamilton designed this sandstone building in the Richardsonian Romanesque style to serve as a canteen for children and mothers visiting the Golden Gate Park Children's Quarters. It was damaged the 1906 Earthquake and by fire in 1974, but it was restored to its original appearance after each of these disasters.

Today the building houses the Sharon Art Studio, a community art center offering classes in the fine and applied arts. The Golden Gate Park carousel stands directly behind the building.
