The John and Susanna Ahlf House is the largest Queen Anne residence in Grants Pass and one of the best preserved.
John Henry Ahlf was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In 1882 he emigrated to America and worked as a butcher Davenport, Iowa, then Roseburg, Oregon, before opening a small meat market in Grants Pass in 1885. In 1902, he became the representative of Armor and Company of Chicago and worked as the area manager for the rest of his career.
