Engine Company No. 13
1458 Valencia Street
Mission District
Built 1883

This Italianate brick building is the oldest standing firehouse in San Francisco.

The façade is made entirely of cast iron which was typical for buildings constructed before the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. Few buildings of this type survived. Most of the survivors are in Jackson Square.

Engine Co. No. 13 converted from horse drawn to motorized apparatus in 1917 and remained in this building 1958. The firehouse was auctioned as surplus property in 1959 and is now privately owned.
