Greenville Main Street Walking Tour
The corner of Main and Ann has always been hospitable.
In 1874, the Palace Saloon stood here. It was destroyed by fire in 1881 along with most of the buildings on the north side of Main Street. Quickly rebuilt, the new Palace Saloon survived for almost three decades until it, too, burned in 1909.
The current building was completed in 1911. It opened as the Northern Saloon and remained in business until 1919 when Prohibition criminalized conviviality. During Prohibition, it was a candy store and soda fountain. By 1938, it was once more a saloon.
