National Register of Historic Places in Napa County
The Hackett House is an unusually well-preserved and well-documented example of a small Queen Anne/Eastlake cottage design by Luther M. Turton. The building has retained its architectural integrity in exterior and interior detail and illustrates a less recognized facet of Turton's career - his small cottage designs.
The building is historically significant as the residence of Dwight L. Hackett, Publisher and Editor of the Napa County Reporter.
In an era of fierce political partisanship in newspapers, Hackett established a Democratic editorial policy for the Reporter. His major newspaper rival was G. M. Francis, Publisher and Editor of the Republican Napa Register.
