National Register of Historic Places in Monterey County
The agricultural development in Salinas Valley in the late 19th century produced a demand for more professional services. As professionals moved into Salinas, they created a demand for housing. The demand was met along Central Avenue.
Most of the large Queen Anne houses which lined Central Avenue were torn down for new development. Only four Queen Anne houses survive, and the Krough House is one.
Although it was one of the smaller houses built on Central Avenue, the Krough House represents the feeling of Central Avenue that had been lost.

When we photographed the building in 2018, it was a private residence.
