National Register of Historic Places in Monterey County
The development of the agricultural industry in the Salinas Valley in the late 19th century, produced a demand for more professional services. As the professional people moved into town they created a demand for housing. This housing demand was met along Central Avenue. Most of the large Queen Anne houses have been torn down for new development. Only four survive. The Krough House is one.
The Krough House was one of the smaller of the houses built on that street, but it represents the feeling of Central Avenue that had been lost.
