Church of the Good Shepherd
1001 Hearst Street
Berkeley
Built 1878

Charles L. Bugbee designed this wood-frame Victorian Gothic church built in 1878. The bell tower, seventy-five feet tall, houses a thousand-pound bell which was Berkeley's fire alarm from 1882 until 1894 when the alarm was electrified.

This is the oldest church in Berkeley and the oldest church in the East Bay in continuous use by its founding congregation.
