Rancho San Antonio was a land grant by the last Spanish governor of California, to Don Luís María Peralta. Three of his descendants lived in Casa Peralta which was remodeled in 1926 in the style of a Spanish villa.

Two other surviving houses built by the Peralta family are the Ygnacio Peralta House in San Leandro and the Antonio Peralta House in Oakland.

As of this writing (January 2011), Casa Peralta is a museum owned by the City of San Leandro.
