National Register of Historic Places in Tulare County
The Porterville Main Post Office, designed by architect H. Rafael Lake, is the most sophisticated Art Deco building in Porterville and is one of two public buildings in the town: the other being the WPA-sponsored City Hall.
The post office is one of three overtly Art Deco post offices remaining in the state. The use of extruded aluminum in the building is precocious, and antedates general use of the material by at least ten years.
