National Register of Historic Places in Siskiyou County
In 1853, a Benedictine monk, Father Florian Schwenninger, came to Bestville to save the souls of the miners. In 1855, he persuaded some miners to build him a church. The resulting woodframe building looked exactly like all the other buildings in Bestville except for a six-foot wooden cross on the roof above the front - and only - door.
