Napa County Points of Interest
The marker reads:
Oat Hill Mine Road
Just a stone's throw to the north, running through the Palisades, is Oat Hill Mine Road. A narrow and picturesque trail today, it was once used to carry over 160,000 flasks of quicksilver valued at more than $5,000,000 from the Oat Hill Mine to the railhead in Calistoga. Deep grooves cut in the rock by freight wagons are still visible. Built by the county in 1893, it was used by many travelers who could not afford the high price of passage on nearby Lawly Toll Road.
