Napa County Points of Interest
Inglenook Winery was founded in 1879 by sea captain Gustave Niebaum who had become wealthy in the Alaskan fur trade. His goal was to create wines that would rival the finest European vintages. The winery was managed by descendants of Niebaum, notably John Daniel, until it was purchased by Francis Coppola in 1975 who renamed the winery Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery.
Coppola subsequently changed the name to Rubicon Estate then back to Inglenook.
The winery is in Napa Valley's Rutherford appellation and is open to the public for tours and tastings.
