Points of Interest in Mendocino County
The Guest House was built primarily of coast redwood by the Fort Bragg Redwood Company as a private residence for the Johnson Family, owners of the company. The house was also used for visiting senior officials from the San Francisco headquarters and VIP guest visitors to the Fort Bragg mill and logging sites.
The building was a showplace for Union Lumber Company products. It was constructed from the finest old-growth redwood and contained 67,000 board feet of lumber. Noteworthy are the ornate woodwork, decorative moldings, door and window trim, and the spool, spindle banisters of the staircase along with the stained glass windows above the stairway’s first landing.
