In 1879, Jake Lowenthal built this brick and iron front building. The plans were drawn by C. J. Wall and the style of the front was Corinthian and Elizabethan.

The iron front was made by T. J. Lannigan of the Eureka Foundry. The ornamental plaster work in the inside was done by Mr. Mullen. The builders were Johnson and Wilcos.

The Lowenthal Building is a Eureka Historic Landmark and contributes to the Eureka Old Town Historic District.
