Jesus Maria

The town, center of a large placer mining section, was named for a Mexican who raised vegetables and melons for the miners. It was settled in the early 1850s with a large population of Mexicans, French, Chileans, and Italians.

When we visited the site, we could not find an historical marker or any trace of the town of Jesus Maria. We did find a lovely stream and an abandoned woodframe building. (Here's a list of other California Historical Landmarks which had no bear flag plaque when we visited them.)
