Built by Samuel H. Levin as part of his chain of neighborhood theaters known as San Francisco Theatres Inc., the theater opened as the New Balboa Theatre on 27 February 1926 with a seating capacity of eight hundred.
After a fire in 1978, the theater was twinned
When we photographed it in 1923, it was one of the last neighborhood theaters operating in San Francisco.
