National Register of Historic Places in Amador County
The Butterfield House is significant primarily for its architectural type, a pyramidal roofed cottage with Greek Revival details, a type common in the southeastern United States and portions of the upper Midwest, but relatively rare in California. It is the only example of its type in Jackson, and one of few remaining in the Mother Lode.
The quality of the design is high; the house is in excellent shape and retains a high level of architectural integrity.
