The Hobart Building was constructed in 1914 by San Francisco architect Willis Polk to replace an earlier building damaged by the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. Polk designed the building in the French Renaissance Revival style with a three-part vertical division of base, shaft, and capital. It displays the mounted tower form of skyscraper design with a lozenge-shaped tower that rises from the center of the building.

The Hobart Building is also San Francisco Landmark 162.

The aluminum-clad highrise on the left was built at 44 Montgomery Street in 1967 as the Wells Fargo Bank World Headquarters. At 43 floors, it was the tallest building west of Dallas.
