This Beaux Arts office and residence, designed by architect Herman Barth, is a very fine example of City Beautiful Classicism. It is considered the finest architectural example of its building type in downtown San Francisco where it contributes to the Lower Nob Hill Apartment Hotel District.

Its most striking architectural feature is the richly-colored and textured masonry surface.

Barth designed a number of commercial buildings located Downtown and South of Market and residences such as the Bransten House on Franklin Street near Lafayette Square.
