Cabris was built around a feudal castle dating from the Year 1000 and was rebuilt around 1500 after the Black Plague. The castle was mostly destroyed during the Revolution.
In 1531, Antoinette de Requiston arranged to have her husband, Jean II, Lord of Cabris, assassinated, along with his sons. Her accomplice was arrested and sentenced, while Antoinette fled to Genoa, Italy.
Cabris has been favoured by many thinkers and artists including Antoine De Saint-Exupéry, André Gide, Albert Camus, Marcel Pagnol, Roger Martin du Gard, Herbert Marcuse, and Jean Marais.
