National Register of Historic Places in Sonoma County
Rosenberg's Department Store, designed by the San Francisco firm Hertzka & Knowles, was placed on the National Register as Santa Rosa'a largest and best remaining example of the Streamline Moderne style. The building possesses integrity of location, setting, workmanship, feeling, and association.
In 1988 Rosenberg's Department Store closed down. The building stood vacant and deteriorating until the early 1990s when the owners obtained a demolition permit. At the last moment, the building was rescued and rehabilitated to include the reversal of some alterations that had been made in 1964.
Barnes & Noble Booksellers have been the anchor tenant since the renovation was completed in 1994.
