Sonoma County Landmarks
Wegenerville was a popular getaway at the beginning of the 20th century. Like much of the surrounding Glen Ellen and Eldridge areas, it thrived on the railway tourism boom before shifting into a quiet, permanent residential community when auto-tourism took over in the 1920s.
In 1980, Mike Benziger and his father Bruno purchased the property and founded the Benziger Family Winery. They released their first wines, a chardonnay and a sauvignon blanc, in 1982.
