National Register of Historic Places in Nevada County
The National Exchange Hotel is the most imposing building in the business district of Nevada City. Three stories tall, extending about one hundred feet along the main street, it possesses dignity, charm and an elegance which must have satisfied yearnings for "civilization" in the old days.
The National Exchange Hotel is one of the seven oldest structures in the business district and the only one that has been used for the same purpose since its construction.
In operation since August 20, 1856, it is one of the longest continuing hotels in California.
