Tower Theatre
1201 North Wishon Avenue
Fresno
Built 1939

Tower Theatre is a representative example of late 1930s suburban theaters designed by Los Angeles architect S. Charles Lee. Lee, an acknowledged master and early proponent of Art Deco and Moderne idioms, designed more than four hundred theaters between 1922-1950. Tower Theatre is his only work In Fresno.

The distinctly-detailed and modestly-scaled building, which houses retail shops as well as a motion picture theater, is the most dramatic example of a Streamlined Moderne building In Fresno.

Adapted from the NRHP Nomination dated 9 June 1992.
