San Francisco Point of Interest: Pier 28½
Bay Bridge anchorage to the left and Pier 28 to the right.
Although this wood-framed building is not on a pier, tradition has it that it is located on Pier 28½. The building has two parts. The older, flat-roofed square structure was built in 1935. The larger, gabled rectangular addition was built between 1935 and 1949.
A photo from about 1935 shows the Bay Bridge under construction near the original building with signs reading "Bay View Restaurant" and "Lunch Room." For many years it was called Boondocks. In 2004 it was renamed Hi Dive.
Pier 28½ contributes to the Port of San Francisco Embarcadero Historic District which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
