The Chinese Pavilion, a traditional moon-viewing platform, was a gift from San Francisco's sister city Taipei in Taiwan.

Although the Chinese Pavilion is located within the Golden Gate Park Historic District, only structures built between 1871 and 1943 contribute to the district.
