This reinforced concrete and stucco example of the early 20th century Classical Revival style was constructed for Herbert L. Rothschild Entertainment, Inc.

According to conflicting sources, the building originally was either a movie theater or a workshop for theatrical scenery. The 68-foot tower, which could have been used to paint scenery, supports the latter position.

The SOMA neighborhood was the epicenter of the dot-com boom, and during the last decade of the twentieth century, many historic buildings in this former industrial zone were converted to condominiums and live-work lofts.
