According to the book, Beautiful America's Northwest Victorians by Kenneth Naverson, this Queen Anne villa was built for Andrew J. Sherwood, an attorney and businessman, from mail-order plans supplied by Knoxville, Tennessee architect G. F. Barber.

The design of the Harlocker House is also attributed to Barber.
