Drill, baby, drill!
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the National Forest Service (NFS) own much of the land in our western states.
In Utah, the federal government owns forty-four percent of the land, and the state owns eleven percent. Another
eleven percent is controlled by Native Americans, leaving only thirty-four percent for private ownership,
but great private wealth has been extracted from public lands by ranchers, miners and oilmen.
President George W. Bush, who was supported by 66.83% of Utah voters in 2000 and 71.54% in 2004, has rewarded this
loyalty by
opening up 288 parcels of Utah BLM land for development by private geothermal, oil, and gas interests.
Most of the radical left including the Washington Post,
the New York Times,
the National Parks Conservation Association,
and the National Trust for Historic Preservation hyperventilated at
the thought of a tourist being exposed to the sight of an oil derrick when visiting a National Park or Wilderness Area.
Utah knows what is best for Utah. Utah does not need advice from the outside world. Drill. baby, drill.
