The architect Richard Neutra was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1892, and studied there under Adolph Loos. He emigrated to the United States in 1923 and briefly worked for Frank Lloyd Wright before moving to Los Angeles. Working in Los Angeles, he developed a distinctive modernist style, geometric and spare, evocative of the glamour of southern California.
