National Register of Historic Places in Sacramento County
This Colonial Revival residence was the home of African American entrepreneur George T. Dunlap and his family. He opened Dunlap's Dining Room in 1930, and for thirty-eight years the restaurant was popular with white, middle-class families, state government workers, and business, social, and religious groups.
When we photographed the building in 2006, it was occupied by a non-profit, service organizations.
A resident of Sacramento notified us that "this restaurant was also the only restaurant listed for Sacramento on Page 9 in the 1959 Guide For Travel & Vacations, The Negro Travelers’ Green Book."
