The Joseph H. Gray House is an architecturally significant dwelling indicative of the surburban design associated with Reno's Rio Vista Heights Subdivision; the city's most prominent and architecturally influential residential development ofi the early 20th century.

The Gray House exemplifies the transition between the Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles in a western residential context.
