National Register of Historic Places in Washoe County
The Winters family was one of the most prominent and colorful pioneer families in Washoe Valley.
Theodore Winters transformed horse racing in western Nevada. His horses drew people from across the nation. He ran for Governor of Nevada in 1890, but was defeated. He served as a member of the Council in Genoa as well as in the Territorial Legislature for two years.
The house, designed by Mr. Steele, is an excellent example of Carpenter Gothic architecture.
