National Register of Historic Places in Monterey County
The Bontadelli House is the only classic example of the French Second Empire - or Parisian style - of architecture in Monterey County.
Peter Bontadelli was born in Switzerland and trained as a painting contractor in Paris before removing to Salinas in 1875. He was one of the earliest craftsmen in his trade in the city of Salinas that had only been incorporated the year before his arrival.
Bontadelli was a leader in the Swiss-American community in Monterey County, being a founder as well as first president of the Swiss-American Rifle Club which was formed around 1900 and still flourishes today.
