Shot at a flop house south of Market Street, this film centers
around four elevator girls who revolt against their employer
played by Big Daryl as the mean and bossy, Bald-Headed
Sally. Michael Kalman, who wrote and directed this piece,
had his own political radar finely tuned from his days at
University of California. In Elevator Girls he does the cameo
role of Bun E. Hugger, as well as imbuing the film with a
decidedly political angst invoking the spirit of Karl Marx as
well as the antics of the Black Panther Party. Behind the
scenes of this campy production were equal portions of Hollywood
excess, Marxist socialism and the illicit industry of some
daring entrepreneurs.
