The Cornell House was built by local contractor Gustave Adolph Lium. It is the only Mission Revival residence in Grants Pass.

Albert Cornell was a pioneer resident and business leader who became rich as a sales representative for the Oregon Mutual Life Insurance Company. Despite his wealth, he continued to work from this modest home.
