The Gates House is a single family, one and one-half story, rectangular structure designed by local architect Frank Chamberlain Clark in the Dutch Colonial Revival Style. It is one of only three documented structures of his with a gambrel roof.

From its completion until 1943 the structure was the family home of prominent Medford businessman, mayor and statewide political figure Pop Gates.
