Firehouse #1, a two-story, brick building at 215 Main Street, was built in 1861. Around 1890,
the original brick facade was enhanced with a wooden Eastlake porch and bell tower.
The firehouse remained on active duty as Nevada Hose #1 headquarters until 1938. In 1985,
the California Department of Parks and Recreation provide financial support for restoration
and stabilization.
The building is open to the public as the Firehouse No. 1 Museum
operated by the Nevada County Historical Society.
